Gorf for ColecoVision – CBS Electronics & Coleco Industries Retro Arcade Shooter

Gorf for the ColecoVision, developed by CBS Electronics in partnership with Coleco Industries, is an official home console adaptation of the legendary arcade shooter.

While the original arcade game featured multiple stages, the ColecoVision version delivers four distinctive levels, faithfully recreating the fast-paced action within the system’s technical limits.

The game begins with a classic defensive setup, as players protect themselves with a shield while fending off waves of alien attackers in a top-down perspective. The second stage raises the challenge by removing the shield entirely, forcing players to face swooping alien formations and bonus ships with nothing but skill and precision.

The third stage shifts gameplay dramatically by placing players in hyperspace, switching to a behind-the-ship viewpoint. Here, survival is the only objective, as alien vessels circle and attack while you speed toward your destination.

The fourth and final stage brings a climactic battle against a powerful alien mothership. Unlike earlier stages, this confrontation focuses on precision shooting, as players must strike the mothership’s glowing weak point while evading its defenses.

Although the Galaxians stage from the arcade original is absent in this port, Gorf remains a standout ColecoVision release. With its variety of gameplay perspectives, escalating difficulty, and authentic arcade feel, it stands as a memorable title for collectors and fans of classic retro gaming.
