Tarzan (ColecoVision) – Classic Jungle Adventure by Coleco Industries

Developed and published by Coleco Industries for the ColecoVision home gaming console, Tarzan is a classic side-scrolling jungle adventure that captures the excitement and athleticism of the legendary jungle hero.

Players take control of Tarzan as he explores dense jungles, rescues captured apes, and faces ancient dangers hidden deep within temple ruins.

Gameplay utilizes both ColecoVision controller buttons — one for punching and one for jumping. Players use the control knob to run across the jungle floor, climb trees, swim through rivers, and swing from vines. By pressing a numeric keypad button, Tarzan can unleash his famous yell, a signature feature that plays an important role in the game’s progression.

Throughout the journey, players encounter caged apes scattered across the jungle. By punching their cages, Tarzan can free them and earn points while progressing toward the temple stage at the end of each round. The temple features multiple levels, each containing a caged ape to rescue. After freeing all the apes, players must return to the top of the temple to confront the powerful idol.

To complete the round, Tarzan must dodge the idol’s bursts of fire and unleash his yell once more, causing the idol to crumble and marking victory before the next, more challenging level begins.

Tarzan for ColecoVision combines exploration, platforming, and action in a faithfully designed adaptation of the classic jungle hero. Its varied gameplay, multi-level challenges, and iconic Tarzan yell make it a standout title in the ColecoVision library and a memorable experience for retro gaming fans.
