This upgraded release restores missing arcade features, adds intermissions, and fully utilizes the console’s memory for a truer classic gaming experience.

Super DK! for the ColecoVision is an enhanced and unofficial version of Donkey Kong, created by Sean Kelly as a restoration of Coleco’s original 1980s port. The game builds upon the improved version developed for the Coleco Adam computer, addressing the limitations imposed on the original ColecoVision cartridge release.
When Coleco first brought Donkey Kong to the ColecoVision console, they significantly reduced the game’s size to fit within limited memory, resulting in a simplified experience compared to the arcade original. Later, the Adam computer version expanded on the concept, offering a more faithful recreation. Sean Kelly’s Super DK! takes this further—unlocking the full memory capacity of the ColecoVision to deliver a truer arcade-style experience on the original hardware.
One of the most notable improvements in Super DK! is the inclusion of the arcade intermission sequences, which were omitted from the original ColecoVision release. These short scenes don’t alter gameplay mechanics but add authenticity and charm to the presentation, giving players a more complete Donkey Kong experience.
Super DK! also introduces an additional level that was not present in the official cartridge. Although this stage lacks proper sprite collision detection—meaning enemies and bonus items do not interact with the player—it allows exploration of otherwise unseen content. The main Donkey Kong levels remain intact and perform identically to the original cartridge, maintaining the same structure and challenge.
By pushing the ColecoVision hardware to its limits, Super DK! stands as both a fascinating technical achievement and a labor of love for classic gaming preservation. It captures the spirit of the arcade original while showcasing what the ColecoVision could have achieved without the constraints of early 1980s cost-cutting measures.
