Super Cobra (ColecoVision, 1983) – Parker Brothers’ Classic Side-Scrolling Shooter Game

Super Cobra for the ColecoVision, released by Parker Brothers in 1983, is a faithful adaptation of Konami’s popular arcade side-scrolling shooter.

Players take control of a heavily armed helicopter sent deep into hostile territory on a perilous surveillance mission. The objective is to navigate through a series of increasingly difficult obstacle courses while avoiding enemy fire and managing limited fuel supplies.

As the chopper pilot, you must skillfully maneuver through rugged terrain that includes towering buildings, steep mountains, and narrow tunnels. Enemy defenses are relentless—tanks, rockets, and ground-based artillery continually threaten your mission. Fortunately, your helicopter is equipped with both a machine gun and bombs to neutralize threats and destroy enemy installations.

Fuel management adds another layer of strategy to Super Cobra. Players must target and destroy fuel tanks scattered throughout the landscape to replenish their reserves and stay airborne. Each level ramps up the challenge with faster projectiles, tighter passageways, and more aggressive enemies, testing reflexes and precision to the limit.

With its engaging gameplay, rising difficulty curve, and faithful recreation of the arcade experience, Super Cobra remains a standout title in the ColecoVision library—one that captures the tension and excitement of early 1980s shoot ’em ups.
