Pitfall II: Lost Caverns, released on the ColecoVision by Activision, continues the legendary platforming adventures of Pitfall Harry.

As the direct sequel to the groundbreaking original Pitfall!, this title expands on the classic formula with new objectives, maze-like exploration, and enhanced gameplay features.

Players guide Pitfall Harry deep into the Andes in search of the Raj diamond, his niece Rhonda, and her loyal cat Quickclaw. Along the way, a wealth of hidden treasures awaits, but so do countless hazards. Poisonous frogs, scorpions, eels, and bats threaten every step, while branching paths and dead ends keep players constantly on their toes.

Unlike its predecessor, Pitfall II introduces checkpoints marked with red crosses. When Harry is defeated, he returns to the most recent checkpoint rather than starting over completely, though at the cost of score reduction. Gold bars and treasures boost the score, acting as both a measure of success and an energy reserve. If the score drops to zero, the adventure ends and the player must begin again.
