Oil’s Well (ColecoVision) – Classic Sierra On-Line Retro Game

Oil’s Well, developed by Sierra On-Line and released on the ColecoVision home gaming console, is a unique retro action game that challenges players to control a robotic oil-drilling arm.

The objective is to mine valuable oil deposits hidden deep beneath the earth’s surface, all while avoiding the lurking subterranean creatures that threaten to cut your progress short.

Gameplay revolves around extending the drill head in four directions using the console’s control buttons, with the ability to quickly retract the arm to escape danger. Players must balance risk and reward, stretching deeper into the soil to collect oil while remaining vigilant of the monstrous bugs that can destroy the drill with a single touch.

With eight increasingly difficult levels, Oil’s Well combines strategy, quick reflexes, and classic arcade-style tension. Its simple yet addictive mechanics made it a standout title in the ColecoVision library and a memorable entry in Sierra On-Line’s early catalogue.
