Matt Patrol for ColecoVision | Unreleased Atarisoft Game by Matt Householder

Matt Patrol is an unreleased ColecoVision title developed by programmer Matthew "Matt" Householder for Atarisoft in 1984.

Intended as a ColecoVision adaptation of the arcade hit Moon Patrol, the project was nearly complete when it was abruptly cancelled. Development ceased just as the title screen was being finalized, leaving behind only a placeholder version labeled "Selma presents Matt Patrol."

Although the gameplay was functional, certain design elements were unfinished, including enemy sprites that humorously resembled "flying bras." As a result, the game remained in an incomplete state and never reached the market during ColecoVision’s commercial life.

Years later, in 1996, Householder sold a copy of the prototype to a collector. This version eventually leaked online, allowing retro gaming enthusiasts to experience a rare piece of ColecoVision history that otherwise would have been lost.

Today, Matt Patrol stands as a fascinating example of a nearly finished game that never saw release. Its story highlights both the creative efforts of early 1980s developers and the unpredictable business decisions of the video game industry at the time. For collectors and fans of unreleased prototypes, Matt Patrol remains one of the more intriguing titles tied to the ColecoVision legacy.
