Frogger for ColecoVision – Classic Arcade Action by Parker Brothers

Frogger, published by Parker Brothers for the ColecoVision home console, is a faithful adaptation of one of the most iconic arcade games of the early 1980s. Combining simple controls with increasing difficulty and high-risk navigation, Frogger remains a timeless classic in the world of retro gaming.

The objective in Frogger is straightforward: guide your frog from the bottom of the screen to the top, crossing a busy road and a hazardous river in the process. Each area presents its own set of challenges that require quick reflexes and careful timing.

The road section is filled with fast-moving traffic including cars and trucks, moving at variable speeds. Contact with any vehicle results in losing a life. Once the road is cleared, the river section introduces a new set of dangers. Although water is typically safe in many games, in Frogger, the river is deadly upon contact unless the frog is riding safely atop logs, turtles, or alligators. Turtles submerge after a short time, and alligators become dangerous when near their open mouths.

Additional obstacles such as snakes appear in later levels, increasing the complexity of the crossing. Players must also aim to jump into one of the open home cells at the top of the screen, ideally when a fly appears for bonus points. Once all home cells are filled, the player advances to a more difficult level with faster obstacles and more hazards.

With its mix of strategy, timing, and fast-paced decision-making, Frogger for ColecoVision remains a standout in the console's arcade library. Perfect for retro enthusiasts and collectors, it captures the essence of early 1980s gaming with a blend of fun, frustration, and nostalgia.
