Soccer is a classic sports simulation game developed for the VTech CreatiVision home gaming console.

Offering both action and strategy, the game places players in the role of a soccer team’s manager and active player, combining real-time control with tactical planning.

As the team manager and player, your role involves directing the overall strategy while actively participating in the game. Players control one team member or the goalie at a time, identified by a flashing indicator. Using the joystick, you can maneuver your player to pass, intercept, and advance the ball across the field.

To perform a kick, the player must approach the ball and press the KICK button. The direction and strength of the kick are determined by the player’s position and movement speed at the moment of action. This mechanic adds a level of precision and timing that challenges players to master both offense and defense.

Out-of-bounds rules are faithfully implemented—if the ball is kicked outside the field, possession goes to the opposing team, who then throws the ball back into play. A visible on-screen game clock tracks the match time, creating urgency and encouraging strategic decision-making early in the game.

Released in the early 1980s, Soccer brings the excitement of the world’s most popular sport to the home console experience. Its blend of tactical management and direct player control offers an early glimpse into the evolution of sports video games, making it a notable entry in the CreatiVision library.
