Route-16 is a dynamic arcade-style maze chase game developed by UA Limited, Centuri, and Hanimex, available on the Emerson Arcadia 2001 home gaming console.
In this retro action title, players control a car navigating a top-down map divided into 16 interlinked routes. Each route leads into a distinct single-screen maze filled with collectible items and dangerous enemy vehicles.
The core objective is to collect all the valuables scattered throughout the map, including money bags worth either 200 or 800 points. However, players must skillfully avoid enemy cars attempting to crash into them. Strategic elements are introduced with hazards and power-ups—oil spills slow the player down, bombs instantly destroy the vehicle, and a checkered flag temporarily turns all enemies into collectible money bags, mirroring the power-up mechanic in Pac-Man.
Each completed maze advances the player to a more challenging stage, with maze layouts featuring dead ends, multiple exits, and narrow escape routes. Fuel management adds an additional layer of strategy; driving faster drains fuel more quickly, and running out results in a lost life. Any leftover fuel at the end of a stage contributes to the final score, encouraging balanced gameplay between speed and resource conservation.
Route-16 delivers a blend of action, strategy, and classic arcade gameplay, making it a standout title on the Emerson Arcadia 2001 and a nostalgic experience for fans of early 1980s home console gaming.
