Escape

Escape is a 1982 action game developed and published by Emerson Radio Corp.

for the Emerson Arcadia 2001 home gaming console. It is widely recognized as a clone of the classic arcade game Berzerk and was part of the early lineup of titles supporting the Arcadia platform.

In Escape, players navigate a series of interconnected mazes while avoiding and destroying hostile robots. Each room presents increasing difficulty, with enemies firing lasers and attempting to corner the player. Similar to Berzerk, the gameplay emphasizes quick reflexes, directional shooting, and careful movement through tight corridors.

Unlike many arcade ports or adaptations of the era, Escape was developed specifically for the Arcadia 2001 and showcases how the system attempted to capture the arcade experience within the limitations of home console hardware at the time. Though the game does not feature the speech synthesis or humanoid character Evil Otto from the original Berzerk, it successfully replicates the core gameplay loop of survive, escape, and repeat.

Escape is a notable example of early home console attempts to bring popular arcade-style gameplay into living rooms. While lacking the technical polish of its arcade counterpart, it remains a relevant title for collectors, historians, and retro gaming enthusiasts interested in early 1980s home video game design.
