Cat Trax (Emerson Arcadia 2001) – Classic Maze Chase Game Featuring Cats vs. Dogs

Cat Trax, developed by Emerson Radio for the Emerson Arcadia 2001 home gaming console, is a vintage maze-chase game inspired by the arcade hit Pac-Man.

Released during the early era of home gaming, Cat Trax presents a classic showdown: cat versus dog.

In the game, players take control of a nimble cat navigating a maze to collect cat food pellets. The challenge intensifies as three aggressive dogs relentlessly pursue the player through the maze. To survive, players must skillfully avoid the dogs while strategically using in-game power-ups.

Occasionally, a green potion appears within the maze. When collected, it temporarily transforms the cat into a dog catcher’s truck, allowing players to capture the chasing dogs and send them to a pound located at the top of the screen. Captured dogs remain confined until the potion’s effect wears off, at which point they resume the chase.

Additionally, a bag of catnip may appear, offering players the opportunity to earn bonus points. The primary objective is to clear the maze of all cat food pellets while avoiding capture and conserving lives.

Cat Trax stands out as a charming and challenging representation of early 1980s game design, showcasing the ingenuity and limitations of the Emerson Arcadia 2001 console. It remains a nostalgic piece of retro gaming history and a noteworthy example of Pac-Man-style gameplay adapted for home consoles.
