L’Abbaye des Morts for the ColecoVision, developed by Alek Maul and published by CollectorVision Games, is a gothic retro platformer inspired by the TI-99 original.

Set in the 13th century, the game draws from real historical events surrounding the persecution of the Cathars, a religious group that promoted poverty and a life without material possessions. Branded as heretics by the Catholic Church, they were driven from the Languedoc region of France.

Players take on the role of Jean Raymond, a Cathar cleric who seeks refuge in an abandoned church while being hunted by crusaders. However, the ruins conceal more than just a hiding place. Beneath the abbey lies a dark and ancient evil that must be faced with nothing but faith as your weapon.

Gameplay combines platforming challenges, exploration, and puzzle-solving, immersing players in a medieval atmosphere filled with suspense and danger. The abbey’s cryptic layout, hidden passageways, and lurking threats create a unique mix of history and horror that sets the game apart from traditional retro titles.
