Jungle Hunt

Jungle Hunt is a classic action-adventure game developed by Taito America and published by Atarisoft for the ColecoVision home gaming console.

Known for its variety of gameplay sequences, Jungle Hunt delivers four distinct challenges that test timing, precision, and skill. Once all four stages are completed, they repeat at a higher difficulty, providing endless replay value.

The story centers on a daring jungle explorer whose mission is to rescue Penelope, captured by cannibals deep in the wilderness. Players must survive four adventurous stages to succeed. The first stage requires swinging on jungle vines without falling.

The second plunges players into a crocodile-infested river, where careful swimming, timed knife strikes, and trips to the surface for air are essential. The third stage introduces rolling boulders of varying sizes and unpredictable movement, demanding quick reflexes to avoid being crushed. The final confrontation is against the spear-wielding cannibals, where success means saving Penelope and advancing to a tougher round of play.

Gameplay unfolds from a side-view perspective, reminiscent of other early platformers such as Pitfall!, combining strategic jumping, climbing, and combat mechanics. Jungle Hunt’s blend of action sequences and escalating challenge levels makes it a standout title from the ColecoVision library. For retro gaming fans, it remains an iconic example of early adventure design, combining narrative motivation with diverse and engaging gameplay.
