Death Race – Arcade-Style Driving Game by CollectorVision for ColecoVision

Death Race is an arcade-style driving game developed by CollectorVision Games for the ColecoVision home console.

Inspired by the controversial arcade classic, the game puts players behind the wheel of a car with the objective of hitting as many fleeing “gremlins” as possible.

Using a steering wheel and acceleration pedal, players must chase down these fast-moving targets as they attempt to escape across the screen. Each time a gremlin is hit, it lets out a distinctive scream or squeal and is replaced by a tombstone. These tombstones remain on the playfield, increasing the challenge by cluttering the screen and making navigation more difficult with each successful hit.

The game’s simple controls and escalating difficulty create a fast-paced and chaotic experience, requiring players to balance aggressive pursuit with careful maneuvering. The longer the game continues, the more obstacles appear, testing the player's reaction time and driving precision.

Death Race stands out on the ColecoVision for its bold concept and intense arcade action. With its retro aesthetic and straightforward gameplay loop, it offers a unique and memorable addition to any vintage game collection.
