Big Sports 12, published by Epoch on October 20, 1981, is a multi-sport video game developed exclusively for the Cassette Vision, one of Japan’s earliest home gaming consoles.
As its name suggests, the title features 12 distinct sports-themed mini-games, making it one of the first compilation sports titles available on a home console.
At a time when most console games focused on a single sport or simplified mechanics, Big Sports 12 stood out by offering a varied gameplay experience across multiple athletic events. Players could enjoy quick, arcade-style versions of different sports such as baseball, soccer, and track events—each adapted to the limitations and quirks of the Cassette Vision hardware.
The game's design embraced the simplicity of second-generation consoles, with minimalistic graphics, limited animation, and knob-and-button controls built into the console itself. Despite its technical constraints, Big Sports 12 brought a surprising level of variety and replayability to the platform.
Key Features:
12 mini-games in one cartridge, each representing a different sport
