Koffi: Yellow Kopter is a retro action game developed by Ron Lloyd and published by AtariAge for the Atari 5200 home gaming console.

The game combines arcade-style reflex gameplay with light strategic elements, centering on environmental rescue and escalating difficulty.

Players take control of Koffi, a small helicopter who is initially overlooked by larger rescue aircraft during emergencies. When Pyro, a destructive thundercloud, begins igniting forest fires with lightning, Koffi takes it upon himself to respond. The objective is to stop Pyro, extinguish fires, and rescue wildlife before the damage becomes uncontrollable.

Gameplay revolves around resource management and precise movement. Koffi must collect water by flying through raindrops or snowflakes, then use that water to extinguish fires by hovering nearby and activating the release at the right moment. Running out of water requires players to quickly gather more, as fires will continue to spread if left unattended. Enemies are defeated through direct contact, but players must carefully avoid Pyro’s lightning attacks.

The game features three distinct forest environments: Mountain Valley, Coniferous Forest, and Windy Vines. Each area introduces unique hazards, such as strong winds that can push Koffi into danger, increasing the challenge and requiring greater control and timing. Players can earn bonus points by rescuing animals and pushing them safely off-screen under trees.

After clearing all three forest regions, players face a boss encounter against Pyro’s mother, a more powerful enemy with faster and longer lightning attacks. An additional moving cloud obstacle increases the difficulty of this battle. Defeating her causes the game to loop back to the Mountain Valley area at a higher difficulty level, offering extended replay value.

Koffi: Yellow Kopter is recognized among Atari 5200 enthusiasts for its creative theme, tight controls, and increasing challenge, making it a notable homebrew title within the retro gaming community.
