Impetus is a homebrew arcade-style fixed shooter developed by the Japanese programmer Inufuto for the Atari 5200 home gaming console.

The final Atari 5200 binary was completed on February 18, 2024, and the game was released digitally through the AtariAge community, where it joins a growing catalog of modern titles for classic Atari hardware.

The game is part of Inufuto’s extensive series of cross-platform homebrew releases. These titles are built using a shared design framework that allows the same core game logic to be deployed across a wide range of 8-bit systems, including the Atari 5200, Atari 8-bit computers, MSX, and Commodore 64. This development approach ensures consistency in gameplay while maintaining compatibility with the technical constraints of each platform.

Impetus features traditional fixed shooter gameplay, placing the player in control of a ship positioned at the bottom of the screen.
