Frogger II: Threeedeep! on Atari 5200 – Classic Multi-Screen Gameplay Overview

Frogger II: Threeedeep! for the Atari 5200 is Parker Brothers’ ambitious sequel to the original arcade classic, expanding the gameplay into a three-screen adventure with new mechanics and challenges.

Instead of a single roadway and river crossing, players must guide their frog through three distinct environments, each filled with unique hazards and moving platforms.

The first stage takes place underwater, where the frog must ascend to the top of the pond while avoiding alligators and fish. Safe passage is possible by riding turtles, which provide moving platforms that help the frog navigate through the dangerous waters. Reaching the surface leads to the second environment, a more traditional over-water sequence where players hop across logs, birds, and even a whale to reach the life preserver trailing behind a tugboat.

The third screen shifts the action upward into the sky. Here, the frog must leap between a flock of birds to reach the cloud at the top of the screen. Each frog has a strict time limit, adding pressure to plan movements carefully and react quickly. A stage is completed once a frog has reached each available home on all three screens, after which the game advances to the next level with increased difficulty.

Frogger II: Threeedeep! builds on the original formula with expanded environments, multi-screen progression, and enhanced platforming challenges, offering Atari 5200 players a deeper and more varied take on the classic Frogger gameplay.
