Frogger on the Atari 5200 is Parker Brothers’ faithful home console adaptation of the renowned arcade hit.

The objective remains straightforward yet challenging: guide a frog from the bottom of the screen to the safe home slots at the top. Achieving this requires navigating two distinct danger zones, each presenting its own set of obstacles and timing-based challenges.

The lower half of the screen features a busy multi-lane road filled with fast-moving vehicles. Any direct contact with a car or truck is instantly fatal, demanding careful movement and precise timing. Once the road is crossed, the upper half of the screen shifts to a fast-flowing river. Instead of solid ground, players must hop across moving logs, turtles, and other floating platforms while avoiding water hazards. Mistimed jumps or contact with threats will cost the frog a life.

Success in Frogger relies on pattern recognition, strategic timing, and quick reactions. Reaching the top safely fills one of the available home slots, and the stage continues until all homes are occupied.
